This five-day intensive course (of morning lectures and afternoon practical sessions) is aimed at paintings, sculpture and objects conservators interested in new, less toxic, more effective, mainly aqueous methods for cleaning painted and coated surfaces.The importance of knowing the pH and conductivity of surfaces and solutions brought to such surfaces is discussed in detail in relation to building isotonic cleaning solutions and also the use of simple buffered and chelate-containing cleaning systems.

Photography and optical microscopy are among the oldest available tools for conservation science in the laboratory, but for in situ research the use of costly, complex and sometimes bulky equipments can still present some practical restrictions. This lead us to focus the 1st edition of this course on teaching resourceful techniques for Heritage conservation. Our target audience includes historians, architects, art technicians and lovers of wall paintings in general.

Der überregionale Erfahrungs- und Wissensaustausch im Bereich der Konservierung-Restaurierung und Denkmalpflege spielt für die Erhaltung des kulturellen Erbes im Zusammenhang mit den aktuellen Herausforderungen in Europa eine zentrale Rolle. Anlässlich des Europäischen Kulturerbejahrs 2018 (ECHY) möchten die deutschsprachigen europäischen Restauratorenverbände VDR (Deutschland), SKR (Schweiz), ÖRV (Österreich) und VRKS-ARCA (Südtirol) die verbindenden Elemente im europäischen Kulturraum in den Blickpunkt rücken und ihre Zusammenarbeit mit einer gemeinsamen Fachtagung vertiefen. Die Konferenz ist als zweitägiges Symposium geplant und soll im Rahmen der EXPONATEC COLOGNE in Köln (22.-24. November 2017) stattfinden.
